5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Pets I'd Like to Adopt

I'm not sure why I've never partaken in 5 Fandom Friday's before, especially since I am a huge fan of making lists. I mean, if you've been reading this blog for a while, you'll notice I tend to Top 5 things a lot, but hey, better late than never!

So, here are my picks for the fictional pets I'd like to adopt:

1. Salem Saberhagen (Sabrina the Teenage Witch): I'm not a huge cat person, in fact, I'm actually allergic to them, but this is one cat that I wouldn't mind having a sneezing fit over. He and I are both super sassy and I think we'd get along great.

2. Hedwig (Harry Potter): Who doesn't love Hedwig? This one was sort of a no-brainer.

3. Ghost (Game of Thrones): Ghost is super loyal and always there to comfort or protect Jon Snow. He's also pretty self sufficient and tends to wander a bit, but he always comes home in the end.

4. Ewok (Star Wars): I have to admit, when I was little, these terrified me. Now though, I think they're completely adorable. We could just hang out, building little tree forts and terrorizing people with sticks and rock sling shots (in the nicest way possible, of course.)

5. Penguins (Batman Returns): I would adopt these little torpedos in tuxedos for two reasons: 1. I absolutely love penguins and 2. I couldn't let the Penguin turn them into little rocket toting henchmen!

Which fictional pet would you guys adopt?

Blogger Recognition Award!

Hello, all!

I've been nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award! First off, I would like to thank Psycholo-geek so much for nominating me. It was a super nice surprise!

Apparently, there's some guidelines to this, so here we go!

This award was created by Edge of Night, and these are the guidelines:
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you've nominated in the post. Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you've nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing.
How I Got Started:

I started this blog off on a whim because for years I've bored my friends with my constant nerd talking, and I figured it was time to give them a break. Also, I went to school for journalism, so I've always had a passion for writing, and I figured why not just mix the two together? I always toyed with the idea of starting a blog, but honestly, I didn't think many people would even be interested in my ramblings. So, it's awesome to see that some of you guys like it as well!

My Advice to New Bloggers:

In the simplest terms, write what you know and write what you love. Writing about something that gets you excited will always come across way better than words you threw together just for the heck of it.

Also, don't write for other people. Don't change your views/opinions on something just to get more comments or anything like that. There's no fun in trying to please everyone, that's not what writing's about. Plus, it's your blog! (Just, don't be mean--No one likes a jerk.)

Now, my nominations!

And just to throw it out there, participation isn't mandatory, so no pressure or anything!

Thanks again!

Currently Reading

Hello all!

So to keep the sadness from missing SDCC at bay, I decided to catch up on all the comics I've been reading. I used to be way more into comics when I was younger, but I sort of stopped because I am the worst at keeping up with them. It would always be the same thing-- I would start out great, always going to pick up the newest issue, but then without fail, I'd miss an issue which then turned into 3 issues which then turned into the whole series.

I'm trying to be better though, and I even bought the Marvel app so I didn't have an excuse to miss anything. Lemme tell you, this app is the best. Now whenever a new issue comes out, instead of driving the whole 7 minutes into town to pick it up at the comic book store (although, they've recently just moved two blocks away from me--which does not bode well for my bank account), I can just open up the app and buy it right there. It's way more convenient when you're prone to bouts of laziness like I am.

Basically, the only ones I've really been keeping up with are all the new Star Wars runs that have recently come out. Also, the new Thor because I needed to know who the female Thor was (and I totally called it. I won't say who it is though, just in case any of you wanted to read it yourselves. Which you should, cause it's pretty awesome.)

Anyways, on to the comics!

Lando #1: This one just started this week and I already love it. The story takes place before Lando runs Cloud City or even joins the Rebellion, and centers around him just making his way through the galaxy on his charm and swindles. To get out of a debt, he agrees to stealing a pretty valuable ship which he doesn't really know much about, and you just know that he and his faithful friend Lobot have totally bitten off more than they can chew which is gonna make for a great storyline.

Darth Vader #7: This run focuses on Vader in between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back and how he evolves in that timeframe. Aside from it being a good story line, having it be from his point of view shows you another side of the Empire's war with the Rebellion which is kinda cool. Also, there's murderous droids in there too, think C-3PO going all The Shining, which it's pretty cool.

Princess Leia #5: I have to admit, out of all the Star Wars runs out there, this is the one that hasn't been impressing me. I don't know if it's because I had such high expectations for it since Leia is one of my favorite characters ever, but it's just meh. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it, but it's just not grabbing me as much as I wanted it to. The story line is cool, you're basically following Leia around as she tries to bring together the last of the Alderaanians and piece her world back together while trying to stay off the Empire's radar, but again meh. I think what also throws me off is that in the Star Wars comics where it's all three of them together, Leia looks a bit like Carrie Fisher, but in this one she doesn't. Obviously, I'm still going to read it cause it's Leia, but c'mon! Make it a bit more exciting!

Star Wars #6: This series is my favorite. I was so excited when Marvel said they would be printing these again and so far, I've not been disappointed. I had read quite a few of the ones that Dark Horse had printed which were great, and I think I sort of expected these to be in the same vein, but they are far from the ones I read years ago, and I love it. Again, these ones are set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, and touch on Han and Leia's blossoming relationship and Luke coming into his own with the Force. They really capture the essence of those three and it feels like they just plucked them from the screen and put them right into print. Also, they just introduced Boba Fett (and Han Solo's wife?!) and I cannot wait to see how everything unfolds.

If any of you are reading these, or have anything else you're loving, lemme know!
